Tracey is a new NINJA CPA Blogger.
My name is Tracey and I am a determined CPA hopeful and am a recent happily married newlywed, so starting this process now is tough on a new marriage.
I start this interesting journey after debating for years about obtaining my CPA license. Finally after graduating with a BS in Accounting and Business Management last May and landing a job in my particular field with a state agency, I knew something was missing.
My husband kept telling me to go for it, but I didn’t think I had what it takes to pass. I was to the point that was I tired of studying and wanted a break. I’m sure most you know what I mean.
I kept pushing the idea of studying for the CPA exam out of my mind, because all I wanted to do was enjoy life with my husband finally and not spend any more time away from him. He is now my #1 motivator.
After working for 4 months, I spoke with my husband on several occasions to make sure he understood what it was going to take for me to pass. Long hours of studying at night and on weekends and not spending as much time with him, but he wants me to succeed and supporting me all the way.
So after much thought and research (finding Jeff’s site, Another71.com) I finally decided I had what it took to pass and finally had the motivation to send in my application. My decision was mainly based on that I am still young and have time to do this. I want to start a family in a few years and want to be able to provide for my family.
I am taking the plunge and starting off my journey with dreadful FAR. Actual accounting work (J/E, etc.) is not my thing. I am more of a tax person, but I want to get what everyone calls the “FAR beast” done and OVER with.
I started studying in February with a self-study course and the Ten Point Combo. As of now I am halfway through my studying, with my exam being May 2nd. I am taking time to make sure I understand all topics because I really do not want to restudy and take this exam twice. So I hope this works out for me.
So NINJAs, here is to 2014 and hoping to pass all 4 exams within a year (because I have to go back to school and get 4 more credit hours…boooo!) and then on continuing the life of relaxing and enjoying life with my husband once this is done.
