Week 30:

My daughter’s 4th birthday this weekend was awesome! It went off without a snag and everyone had a blast, most importantly the Birthday Girl. As expected though, there was no studying on Saturday. My day started at 7:15am on Saturday and was go-go-go until 9pm. I had a passing thought of going to the library at 9pm, but decided against it, as I was exhausted and it wouldn’t have been time well spent.

Instead, I got a good night sleep, so I could make a strong push on Sunday. It worked, I logged 8 ¼ hours Sunday, went to church with my family and had a nice Mother’s Day breakfast.

I made good study progress this week, logging 23 hours. I finished up the Chapter on Economics and all the MCQ’s. I did pretty well on the Economics MCQ’s, it is one of my stronger areas. I also got into Financial Management, which is going pretty well thus far. During the week I also made it a point to print out the Executive Summary on Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Control from the COSO website for a more detailed review of this material (thanks Jennifer). Corporate Governance does make up 16%-20% of the exam, so I think this additional step is certainly worth the effort and would recommend it to anyone studying for BEC.

For the coming week I plan to re-read through and re-work all MCQ’s on Financial Management, which is one of the most heavily weighted sections of the exam with 19%-23% of the overall material. After I complete that section, I will begin on Strategic Planning. I am now 11 days away from the BEC exam, so will need to get through these chapters quickly, so that I may begin doing practice exams to work on my speed. I will try to log up to 30 hours this week, as we are quickly approaching D-Day.

By the way, I did pull a great one out of my sleeve for Mother’s Day, but will spare you all the sappy details. Let’s just say that it bought a tear to my wife’s eye, she absolutely loved it. Happy Mother’s Day and best of luck to all!

Hey Jay, Did you purchase the COSO Frameworks on internal control and enterprise risk management? I appreciate the advice, I'm taking BEC for the first time and want to be prepared for this part of the exam. Thanks! Seaver
