A warm hello to all my fellow future CPAs! If anyone knows how tough this journey is- then its us. I first started on this arduous path about four-five years back when I half-heartedly decided to attempt this exam.
I had been out of college for about five years at that time and had not been able to apply my accounting degree in my then current job. I studied for the BEC section assuming that it would be easy. As we all know BEC can easily fool anyone. After receiving my first miserable score, I brushed the idea of re-attempting for the exam.
About two years later, I got married and my supportive family encouraged me to give the exam another shot. This time, I got a study buddy and decided to give BEC another try and failed again! Looking back now, I know I was not nearly as dedicated as I have been in the past year and a half, so I understand why I failed.
Disappointed and disheartened, I was at crossroads. This time I steered clear of BEC and attempted REG in fall of 2009. I still remember coming home and crying the entire afternoon because I knew I blew the SIMS. The score of 68 confirmed my disappointment.
Perhaps the score angered me even more so since I am a tax accountant and I had assumed that the REG section would be easy for me. Once again, family & friends convinced me that I am too close to give up and should give REG one more shot.
After a busy tax season and studying rigorously while having the support of Club 75 & Jeffs notes, I took and passed REG in May 2010. Since then, I have attempted AUD, BEC and FAR and have missed them all by a few points.
I have to admit, I dont know where the determination to continue comes from. Perhaps partially from the fact that I have invested so much time, money and dedication to this exam as well as from fellow Club 75 members who continue to inspire and motivate me to continue on this journey.
I recently took FAR on July 5th but struggled with the SIMS, so I dont know the outcome. My one week vacation that I took last week to relax and unwind felt way too short, and so now I am moving on to tackle my nemesis: BEC.
I have already sat in the classes earlier this summer and now have less than 6 weeks to study for it! I am going to begin by writing out my review schedule and by using Jeffs study planner. Good luck to everyone who is studying and know that hard work does pay off so we can do this!
